Occupational therapy addresses sensory integration to help children who experience challenges with their mind-body connection.Developing the sensory system may improve the way a child’s brain interprets input from their environment. This includes addressing all of the senses: sight, smell, sound, taste, touch, vestibular,* and proprioception.**

Chicago Occupational Therapy uses evidence-based sensory integration therapy to help children who experience challenges processing sensory information. Common diagnoses which are treated include, but are not limited to, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing disorder (SPD). For best practice and skill progression, the team will also work closely with parents to provide education and strategies.

*Vestibular refers to balance and spatial orientation.
**Proprioception refers to understanding where your body is in space.
